Dr. Herizo Andrianandrasana

Herizo is a Postdoctoral Researcher in conservation science at the Department of
Geosciences and Geography, University of Helsinki. Prior to that, he was a Research
Fellow at the Institute for Global Sustainable Development, University of Warwick,
and a civil servant in Madagascar, responsible of the environment in Analanjirofo and
Analamanga. Previously, he worked as a conservation practitioner for Durrell Wildlife
Madagascar, focusing on ecological monitoring and protected areas.


Herizo is a conservation biologist with extensive field experience and expertise in
ecological monitoring, remote sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
He received his DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford, Department of Zoology
(now the Department of Biology), where he studied the effectiveness of community-
based conservation in Madagascar.


He has dedicated his career to developing participatory ecological monitoring
methods and identifying strategies for achieving conservation success in developing
countries. His contributions to conservation have been recognised with the 2014
Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa, presented by HRH Prince William, and the
2006 Ramsar Crane Bank Award from the Ramsar Secretariat.
